We had the good fortune of connecting with Christy Findlay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own practice was truly wanting to help people, not only clients, but the therapists in the office. I wanted an environment where everyone felt supported and heard. We have a collaborative group, which is beneficial for clients as well. We are able to provide in office referrals for a broad scope of presenting issues. I am fortunate to work with an amazing group of professionals who care greatly for clients and provide excellent counseling services.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The road to opening this practice was not exactly easy. Becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor was a journey. I was a young single mother of four kids and opted to put my dreams of college on hold to raise my children. As the kids got older and I met and married my husband, I had more support to go after my passion. Working full-time, going to school and maintaining a household, was a lot! I was fortunate enough to meet great people along the way who encouraged my progress. Through dedication and hard work, I was able to become a licensed professional counselor and open up my practice. This has been such a rewarding and exciting (also terrifying) experience. Having my colleagues by my side was instrumental in making this dream a reality.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some favorite places to hang out/see for me would be taking in a Dallas Stars game, grabbing food at Terilli’s in Dallas or having wine at my fav place Valley Vines in Celina! Some fun “escapes” for me are The Gaylord for a little staycation or heading to the Riverwalk in San Antonio!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My entire team at Findlay Therapy Services has been instrumental in making this business successful! I also must mention my husband Rob Findlay, who has been my rock and a huge support system.
