We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Pate and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristen, is there something you believe many others might not?
I have heard people say for as long as I can remember that “failure is not an option”. I used to believe this, until I realized how much I was able to actually learn and grow from my failures. I remember being in college and having my whole life planned out, but my own failure to maintain a high enough GPA resulted in me taking a detour. That detour, however, allowed me to learn, grow, and get to know myself. If it wasn’t for that “failure” I would not be where I am today. So now I say, “failure has to be an option”, because there is so much growth that comes from failure.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the CEO of Kristen Pate, Inc., which is a multi-brand service & product based business. The brands include: Coached by Kris- personal mindset & success coaching for those looking to discover their ideal self, advance in their career, grow as an entrepreneur, and start living a life with purpose on purpose. On-demand courses and webinars are also in development. Branded by Kris- digital design services, provided everything from branded flyers to website updating services for businesses and entrepreneurs. Purposefilled by Kris- done-for-you, ready to use digital planners, workbooks, e-books, etc… for your personal or business use. Motivational atheleisure wear and products are also in development. Though coaching is the major focus of my business, I am able to provide each of my clients with an additional add on service or product that will continue to enhance their coaching experience and keep them on track towards realizing their full potential. Everything I do is centered around mindset, success, and manifesting the life you desire. I actually started my business by accident. Inspired by my own challenges, requiring me to change my mindset and shift my perspective, and at the prodding of a few close friends, I decided to launch my business. I saw how the changes I made helped me move forward and closer to my dreams. Now I am shifting gears to help other people, like me, do the same thing. I am a motivator and the one who gives you a shift in perspective to help you get past your mental blocks so you can start living with purpose on purpose. As for design, I am a techie by profession, so it really came natural to me. I have a career, outside of my businesses, as the director of technology at a PK-12 school. Part of my job requires that I test out all types of tech tools. So, I started designing different things for work and church. I would also build websites for my school , church, and other businesses. When I am in my element, coaching and creating come easy to me. I love talking to people, hearing their stories, and figuring out how can I help unleash their hidden potential. Creating and designing for me is almost like therapy. I just love taking a blank slate and turning it into something beautiful. What I’ve learned along the way is that not everyone is going to like or need your service. You have to just focus on doing what you love and the right clients and customers will come along. I’ve also learned that I have to be willing to invest in my business if I expect anyone else to. I think too many entrepreneurs make the mistake of thinking that they will just open their doors and the people will come. If you are not willing to spend money to make money, you will be out of business before you know it. What I want people to know and understand the most about me and my business is that I absolutely love what I do! I have a genuine desire to serve others and it brings me joy to see other people succeeding and growing in ways they could only dream of.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
This is kind of tough since I’m not from the area. So I will approach it this way. When I visit a new city I like to go where the locals go to eat, shop, and have a good time. I don’t want to feel like a tourist the entire time. Of course I would want to go to some famous monuments or locations to take a few pics, but I would want to spend most to the time exploring different restaurants, going to live music venues, open air markets to shop and support local merchants. I would definitely like to do something really fun like visit an amusement park or go to a karaoke bar (I already have my playlist planned). I just want to experience the best of what the city has to offer.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this to my family and friends who have always supported me and all of my spontaneous ventures. I am so grateful that they see my hard work and sacrifice to be successful. Special thanks to my husband Mark, who reminds me how proud of me he is. I am working everyday to embrace the title of “Renaissance Woman” as he calls me. I’d also like to thank a special group of woman I call Women of Vision. They are not just my friends, but my sisters. We collectively have so many gifts and talents, but above all that we support each other and hitch our wagons to one another so we can all move forward together. They have truly been my lifeline this year. So shoutout to Tennielle of @shespeaksbougie for shouting me out for this opportunity and being a sounding board,  Tonya of @tnicole_styling for keeping me looking and feeling amazing no matter what I’m wearing, Pep of @thephotocitizen for taking my amazing photos and helping me build great content, Pamela of @mgllcnola for keeping my personal and business finances on point, Teriece of @iamteriececherell for helping understand the importance of building solid personal and business relationships, Alisha of @unlishedbyli for making sure my earring game is always on point, Piper of @nailznmotion for the care you take to make every spa experience amazing,  Melody and Melissa, my besties since been, my client Jamila of  @personalbydesing for creating my amazing and faith filled custome wrist stacks and always being a ray of light. I could literally go on and on because I am so imensly blessed! Savig the best for last, none of this would be possible without the grace of God. He has literally taken me from the valley to the mountain and shown me the power of prayer, faith, and obedience.
