We had the good fortune of connecting with Tavia Whitlowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tavia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
At the time, it was all about wanting to make women feel beautiful and I thought that meant only through makeup. I was not really sure what I wanted to do to help women with this process but I knew it was my passion to show ladies how to see their beauty as I saw it. Because of my past insecurities with my own looks, I knew I had to help women that struggled with seeing their beauty.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from other makeup artist is that I am a photographer but I am also a licensed esthetician. I am here now in my position because I have always known you have to do what you need to do now so that you can do what you want to do later. I was willing to do the extra mile that I do not believe others would do. Always do what they won’t. It has not been easy and it is still a grind everyday. I overcome challenges simply by praying and speaking life into myself and business. I have learned that my time and my talent is very valuable. And not to allow people to take advantage of me. My brand is about showing people what I see in them. Bring out what they never thought was there. I meet so many women that are so insecure about themselves. It is not a cool feeling and I will make sure for the time they spend with me, they know how amazing they are.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Brunch on Sunday always! I am really not a cook so we would absolutely eat out every night. Soul food is my favorite food so we will have to visit some of the best soul food spots in Dallas like south Dallas Cafe and Aunt Irenes. There is a burger spot that is my hands down favorite and that is Haystack. I love to hike at Cedar Ridge Preserve so we would have to do that at least 3 times that week. We would have a house party and I would invite all of my friends and we would just talk, drink and laugh all night long. And of course we would shop and I am positive I would do a photo shoot for my friend.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My support group has always been my friends and my husband. So I dedicate my shoutout to them.
