Meet Kerri Long | Police Officer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kerri Long and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kerri, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Sgt. Pennie started the foundation due to the increase injuries and deaths of police officers. He reached out to other officers throughout Texas to build his board of members.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been an officer for 20 years. I started working patrol and I worked evening shift for 9 years. A spot came open for a community response unit and I had to interview for that spot. There were over 20 officers applying for that position. There were only 4 open positions. I was one of the officers chosen for that position.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I always tell people that visit Tyler that they need to see are amazing Caldwell Zoo. Enjoy Stanley’s BBQ for lunch and enjoy a cupcake from Small Cakes. Tyler is a relax town and very beautiful with all the azaleas in the Spring time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I believe God is the foundation of my life and He deserves to have a shoutout. If it wasn’t for God I wouldn’t have my job. He allows me to reach people in my community to do my job. I am a community response officer so my job is to speak to the community. I do day care programs, school career days, crime watch meetings. I work with special needs children, adults, autism community. I reach out to people and let them know officers are here to help and not to be scared of us.

We are able to reach out to the widows and have a relationship with them after something horrible has happened to them. We want the widows that they are not forgotten about.
