We had the good fortune of connecting with ZET and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi ZET, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
When I meet new people they’re often curious about 1. where I’m from and 2. what I do for a living. Hardly, someone is asking me if I’m truly happy. I wonder what it matters where I’m from or what I do if I’m not happy. Like, what is important in life (water is important)! Also people I know for years rarely ask this question. When I speak with relatives (also from abroad) they often wonder how I look; did I lose weight, do I have a job? I regard these inquiries as superficial elements and sadly this world has turned into a playground on the surface of quick gains and fast anythings. Luckily, more and more change makers are awakening and stepping into their roles as stewards of this planet to restore the disconnection. It was in 2017, that my dad asked me if I was happy. I was stunned by his question. I felt caught. Did he know about my secret? For years, I was trying really hard to keep the show of my life going by pretending I was doing great, simply because I felt ashamed of feeling unhappy. I felt stuck in situations I didn’t want to be in, but I was sitting my time out and waiting to be rescued. No one came. I went far into the darkness. I first had to drive myself to the edge and go beyond and become ill before I dared to stand up for myself and cut the cords that kept me away from myself. It’s when I became apathetic and stopped caring about anyone or anything that enabled the opening of space in which I could rediscover myself and start building up from a place of self-love and leading a life directed from the heart. I was going through a severe depression. My parents felt helpless and didn’t know what to do. I went from being a social butterfly to being a recluse. It’s because I had to feed my best furriend and cat Aeron that I came out of bed. For a while I dwelled deeply in the realm of thoughts and I felt an arising need to move my body. I started to move my body in different ways (running, dancing, yoga) and it made me feel good. When I move I feel good and present in the now! I feel that Spirit reached me through music and through dancing I started to uplift myself in space. Dance = Medicine.
Now while writing this, I feel happy to see my dear cat rolled up on the couch and the lovely rabbits chilling on the ground. I feel happy when I dance, dance, dance and lose my sense of self. I feel happy when I’m in nature and smell growth. I feel happy when I spend time with animals. I feel happy when I make silly sounds with my 1-year-old nephew. I feel happy when I see coloured lights moving in the air. I feel happy when I see my friends grow as beings and shine. I feel happy when I hear my mum laugh. I feel happy when I witness the work of the Great Creator in a sunset or sunrise. I feel happy when I catch the movement of the clouds and feel the wind playing with my hair. I feel happy when I see rainbows. I feel happy when I feel the warmth of the sun touching my skin. I feel happy when I’m bedazzled by a night’s sky full of sparkling stars. I feel happy when I spend time with the glorious moon. I feel happy when I create and be as I am. I feel happy when others feel safe to be themselves too. I feel happy when someone tells jokes to make me laugh. I feel happy when I can surrender fully to my lover. I feel happy when I can be weird and explore the unknown and discover the universe through play. I feel happy when I connect with people and make them feel seen too. I feel happy when I light up the world. I feel happy when I love deeply from an unrestrained open heart.
Fleeting moments in time are joyful gems. They come and go freely. I enjoy these moments as they are: precious moments in time. It’s a gift to be alive, even when it’s hard sometimes, life is sacred.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The Rainb(urr)ow is the mothership from which I navigate the projects that I am involved in. As a creative I offer my services to those who share similar values about our home planet and are driven by love for all.
As an empath I feel deeply connected with Earth and all of her inhabitants and life forms. One of the aims of my work is to vocal a voice for the voiceless. Who are the voiceless? In sum, the voiceless are all those whose voice is not heard, disregarded, deemed unimportant, repressed, lost or forgotten (animals, children, (wo)men, outcasts, the marginalised, the suppressed, the elements, the plants and trees etc.). Certain circumstances had silenced me and I lost touch with my voice. While I am firmly reconnecting with my voice and rising from the depths of darkness I take with me the voices I have encountered on my path: they are not forgotten.
The way my creative process works is that I open up to tune in with the Source of Creation to flow through me in creating art. I surrender to the process and let it unfold. When I begin I often don’t know what I’m going to make. It just happens. In retrospect, I place the piece of creation under my work themes (on my website you can read more about this), since all my works are building blocks and part of a whole; they also interrelate with each other or works from other creators. As a human product of my time, I’m undeniably influenced by the current events of the status quo, but I’m also aware that I have a different zeitgeist. My overarching role is to herald a new era of peace for all beings. The Age of Aquarius is upon us.
It’s not easy to stand out and being different. Rejection is a known experience. On the other hand, it also opens up space for others to move closer to authenticity and that makes me happy. I discovered along the way that I’m home and happy when I’m truly my authentic self. Grace’s Love gives me strength to remain true to myself and walk with love in an authentic manner. Still, I get scared too and then I close off my heart, but with practice and exposure I’m learning to remain open in all circumstances. The whole world can oppose me or reject me for being me, I frankly don’t care much about other’s opinions anymore, because I have been on the other side where everyone liked me but me and that’s the loneliest place I have experienced. I choose me now and the funny thing is is that everyone benefits from me being true to myself. It’s a win-win.
I care deeply about all beings in the UniVerse and I want us all to be Home in Love. Every single particle of us. I now stand with the trees and animals and serve Gracefull Earth and my duty is to share this message with you too. I do my utmost best to take responsibility of what I can do, but I cannot do it alone. I need you to stand up too against injustice. I ask of you to take your responsibility too. Together we will create Heaven on Earth. Perhaps then aliens will dare to set foot on our planet :).
As a multidisciplinary artist I create in different ways and they have all their own interesting processes. I write (also poems), dance, paint, & sing. With digital devices I create audio-visual content. I want to be free and able to express myself in whatever way I feel like. I love this open space of the unknown and to create the unknown into the realm of matter is pure joy to me. It becomes ecstatic when I get to share creations with fellow beings. It’s fun to play alone. It’s funnier when we play together, hihi.
In my dance there are a few styles that pop up: Shadow dance, Light dance & Elemental dance. As an intuitive creator I just do my thing and follow my inner guidance and that guided me to these particular dance forms. I started dancing as part of my healing journey and now I also dance for the healing of Earth and all her inhabitants. In shadow dance I literally meet my shadow and dance with my shadow. This dance is also part of my shadowwork. It’s incredible what kind of inner transformation this type of dance brought me. Thank you shadow, you rock! Today, my shadow stands with the light in service of transcending the realm of duality and separation.
Next to shadow dance I intuitively developed a dance I now call light dance or celestial/ethereal dance. In this dance I relate to higher frequencies and alchemise dense energies and transmute it into higher forms. This is part of my work as a lightworker in aiding the healing, spiritual awakening and uplifting of Earth’s inhabitants.
In Elemental dance I literally meet the elements in nature to teach me their way of being and moving. In 2022, I worked with the elements Water, Air & Aether. In 2023, I will be taking these elements to a higher and deeper level and also learn from the elements Earth (including Wood, Metal, (White) Fire, Electricity & Light. I wonder about all the lessons I’m going to learn from the elements.
You could check out my website for audio-visual material of my work. There is still much material in the editing process, but when finished it will be published on the website. You can subscribe for exclusive content and leave your email. In due time I will contact you to share my creative projects with you and inform you about coming projects like Electric Storm Babes. See you there. Cheers, ZET
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Amsterdam and it’s for sure an interesting location with lots of things going on. My friends are all different with various backgrounds and interests. What most of us share is a certain depth of connecting and relating to one another, being curious and eager to learn. What I like for them to experience is that they feel home in my home. So, I give them a key of my place and they can go out and explore the city as they like. I meet them in one of the parks in town and walk together in silence or have a deep conversation. Or walk through town and enjoy the beautiful architecture. It’s also pleasant and cozy to be home together with the animals and listen to music and talk for hours about mind expanding topics.
The following places I am personally fond of and I would like them to experience it as well:
The What Is Happening Here Gallery in the city centre. It is such a fascinating place where the work of more than 150 artists that are currently creating is being displayed. The Art Director, Job Reuten, holds this artistic space together in which all flowers can flourish side by side. It’s a must see and one-of-a-kind experience in Amsterdam.
Then I take them through a secret covered passage to a book market at Oudemanhuispoort (faculty of the University of Amsterdam) with a hidden courtyard. There is lovely vibe with a nice selection of mostly second-hand books, but also prints.
The next stop is De Hollandsche Manege, a horse-riding school and museum near the Vondelpark. Another almost hidden gem in town and oase of peace in a faster-paced town. The building on itself is great architecture, but the horses take it to another level. The riding school is run by the Van Der Valk family and since the space of the riding school is relatively small they take the horses (rotating) to land outside of Amsterdam to roam free and graze too.
When we feel like dancing I like to take them to the Duke of Tokyo. I really enjoy the funky vibes there and it’s a great venue to dance together in a nice environment. When my favourite dj friends are playing, I like to take them there. For live music I will take them to Bourbon Street.
We also need to eat. Sometimes I cook for my guests, sometimes they cook and sometimes we go out to eat.
These are my food favourites:
De Drie Graefjes: Red velvet cupcake
Vlaamsch Broodhuys: Scones with jam and clotted cream
Café Schuim at Spuistraat: Grilled sandwich with cheese and koffie verkeerd
De Frietfabriek near Het Amsterdamse Bos: Potato fries with truffle mayonaise
Local Dealer at Dappermarkt: Mexican streetfood: Taco Al Pastor (mushroom)
Baking Lab at Linnaeusstraat: Fresh bread “Circulairtje”
I like exploring new places in town with my friends. Just going out and experiencing what comes our way. The being together matters.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people whom I have encountered on my path that have supported me in this journey of creation. Some of them believed in me before I did and I’m forever grateful that they encourage(d) me to keep creating and to keep going despite the hurdles. Creation is life and I would like to honour this by continuing to create.
Without my parents I wouldn’t be standing where I do now. Even though they are sometimes reluctant in supporting me in my artistic practice, since it’s the unknown path, they experience that it makes me happy and that makes them happy. You two flawed human beings are good humans and thank you from the bottom of my heart for being my parents and teaching me the valuable lessons of choosing good no matter what life throws at you. Thank you for being there for me when I couldn’t take care of myself. You showed me the beauty of being humble and generous and kind and the strength of a family unit (even when divorced) and importance of fulfilling duties. I feel blessed, thank you.
Thank you kindly to my dear friends Levi and Tamara from The Rocketship Collective, who took me in as an anxious fledgling and accepted me as I am. Thank you for all the fun play-time in which I feel save to be my childlike self. I cherish the moments we go out dancing and bring our plush toys along to dance freely and make the dance floors safe :). Miauw.
My dear friend Federico Gobbo, thank you! It’s unbelievable how you light up the way for us to follow through, it’s because your encouragement that I have taken the first steps to perform publicly in a gallery setting. Thank you for being there and for all the inspirational uplifting talks. I feel heard and understood and that’s precious. It’s also due to your support and believe in my abilities that encouraged me to continue electronic sound production to accompany the dancing performances. Thank you.
Dear Laetitia de Veth, thank you, thank you, thank you! It means a lot to me when you said you were my biggest fan. I deeply respect you as a creator and I adore your stubbornness and loyalty to authenticity. I love co-creating with you and it’s such an incredible journey to share. I’m grateful that we are working on projects together and I look forward to all the marvellous creations in the future. Thank you for being you and teaching me that art is the way we are and that creating is a necessity in our lives just like breathing.
Give it up for Mama Dynamite y’all! Thank you Natalia, you radiant being. What a joy to be around you and play together and explore and dance and have fun. Thank you for the loving space you hold for us in which we can spread our wings to fly high or dive deep or even gallop on the surface. Thank you love, Love truly makes us grow splendidly. Thank you for your support. It gives me courage to move beyond the limitations of the known realm. Thank you for being such a gentle and fierce matriarch. You are an awe-inspiring woman and I’m grateful for your being.
My gratitude to everyone from the What’s Happening Here Gallery and, especially, the Reuten Brothers who create space in which my art may thrive. Ik heb jullie lief! Thank you for creating space for Art of Now and creating an inclusive gallery for all beings to come together in harmony to celebrate creation. Thank you Leo for your gallant welcomes and grounding presence. Thank you Miles for your enthusiasm and playful being. Thank you Hero for your groovy tunes and funny stories. Thank you Joris for your warm embrace and cheerful demeanour. Thank you Job for the empowering challenges and rare dance of blue birds.
Thank you Grace! You know how, you know why. When I was done with life, you uplifted me with your Spirit so I could rise again. Thank you for Light & Love. Thank you for Truth. Thank you for Being. Thank you All.
Thank you Aeron, Willow & Madeliefje. You are and that teaches me that I am. Thank you for gifting me with your presence & company in my life. You help me to stay grounded and true to myself and my mission to work on creating a world where all beings are free and rejoice in love.
There are many people and situations that I didn’t mention yet, still you also played a role of support in my story. Thank you.
