Meet Brandi Wright | Texas Real Estate Broker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandi Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandi, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My first job in real estate was working as a buyer’s agent on a team. It was a great introduction into the business, but as I got a little experience under my belt, I would find myself sitting in team meetings with ideas flowing through my head of changes I wanted to see or new business practices I wanted to try, but my role on that team didn’t allow for me to step outside of the somewhat narrow list of responsibilities I had. I was 21-23 years old during that time, so I completely understand why I was in the role I was in, but I knew that wasn’t a long-term position for me. It was always the goal for me to get my broker’s license and start my own business. At the time I got my broker’s license, one had to have had an active sales license for a minimum of two years (along with a list of other requirements) prior to being eligible for a broker’s license. Once I hit the minimum two year requirement, the thirst I had to run my own show and try out my own ideas won. About 2 years and 1 month after activating my sales license, I got my broker’s license and started Wright Real Estate Brokerage. I often joke that I was too young and too dumb to know what all I was getting into, but it has worked out well, and I wouldn’t change a thing. I feel very fortunate to have been raised by a wonderful and supportive family in small Texas town where the community also loved and encouraged us just like our families did. Throughout my childhood, I had so many positive influences, but I give my seventh grade basketball coach a ton of credit for developing me into a leader. That skill may have naturally been in me, but I don’t know when I would have discovered it if it had not been for her pulling me aside and telling me she noticed I was a natural-born leader and challenging me to practice my leadership skills as I played point guard for her on that seventh grade basketball team. From that point forward, I identified as a leader. I wanted to be a good leader. Being in leadership roles made me happy. Ultimately I found the most happiness in real estate in my role as a leader rather than a team member.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Working as a buyer’s agent on a team with the first company I worked for in real estate, I stopped getting new buyer clients from the team once they realized I was getting my broker’s license and likely leaving. As I stopped getting new leads from the team, I realized I needed to do something to generate quick closing business because I wouldn’t be able to carry that business over to the company I was starting. In searching opportunities, I began working with renters because this was usually business I could transact from start to finish in a matter of weeks and while it wouldn’t make me wealthy, it would be enough income to carry me over to my own business. This was during a time when the consumer did not have near as much information as today and a time when not many agents would spend their time working with renters. In meeting a lot of rental clients, I saw a set of common characteristics. Most didn’t have home ownership even on their radar. Most didn’t feel they could ever achieve that. Most were content renting for life. As I got to know them better, I learned they didn’t dare dream of home ownership because they felt the path was impossible. For me it was “challenge accepted”. I developed individualized programs that would put those who wanted to own a home, on the right path to achieve home ownership and for many we did that. I believed in them, and in turn they believed in a young 23 year old real estate broker and set my career off to a good start. These guys also helped me find one of my primary passions for this business and what probably still brings me the most joy…busting my tail to help the underdog “win”! My business really has been built on the grit and determination that was brought out by these relationships I formed during those early days. I feel like a lot of real estate agents overcomplicate building their businesses. For me it has just been about knowing the business and focusing on the people and treating them how you want to be treated. My business gives the $100,000 deal the same attention as the $1,000,000 deal. People deserve the best representation regardless of the potential commission. People recognize that. They recognize that you put them first and truly have their best interest at heart. When you bust your tail for people, are authentic, and know your business, people will recognize it and will insist all their friends and family use you.
As our market shifts away from the extreme seller’s market we have experienced the last few years, I am getting more and more opportunities to get back to one of my favorite parts of the job in turning “underdogs” into homeowners. That brings me a lot of joy.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the outdoors, so the best outdoor spots would probably be our focus. I think we would spend a good bit of time hanging out at my house on the patio enjoying the sun and catching up. I love to cook, so I would invite over other friends and have a dinner party with everyone. Board games would also probably be a part of that evening. Arlington has a hidden treasure in Lake Arlington, and I love boating, so an afternoon on the lake would be top of the agenda. Some of my other favorite spots to visit would be Chicken N Pickle, Joe T. Garcias, Eddie Vs, and Truck Yard.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I give huge credit to my wife Haley. She deals with my crazy unpredictable schedule as a real estate agent without a complaint. She is always willing to pick up the slack at home and with our kids when work pulls me away last minute or in seasons where it pulls me away a little too much. She is also a rockstar of mom to our two boys. She is a former professional educator, and it is pretty neat to see her flex those teaching skills in both the formal curriculum she does with the boys but even more so in the informal, everyday teachable moments with them. It is a good thing we are on the same parenting team because I sure couldn’t compete with her. I couldn’t do this AT ALL without her.
My parents and siblings really deserve a shout out too! I am the baby of 4 kids and was raised by not just my wonderful parents, but really each of my siblings also had a role in raising me too. I would not be where I am if not for the love, encouragement, support and guidance from my family.
