We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandy Porche and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandy, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Deciding that Christ would be the foundation of my business is the best decision that I’ve ever made. From my practice name to the facilitation of my sessions, my faith is at the center of it all. I wanted my business name to reflect the presence of Christ and my connection to Him. I’m not a biblical counselor. With biblical counseling, problems are answered with scripture or a mini-sermon. I’m a Christian Counselor and my counseling style is different. I believe in the power and importance of scripture, however, in my counseling sessions, we are not using scripture as a mask. With faith at the center of every session, I provide a safe place for clients to unmask and experience true engagement as we get to the core of dysfunction, trauma, and possible clinical symptoms. My clients and I experience a genuine exchange that gets to the heart of the matter.
What should our readers know about your business?
My name is Brandy Porche, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and the sole owner of His Daughter Counseling The Heart, PLLC. I help families, couples, and individuals heal from dysfunction, trauma, and clinical symptoms that hinder healing and living a healthy life emotionally and mentally.
I believe that I am divinely set apart in my facilitation and unique approach to counseling. Clients can be their authentic selves in my sessions, no matter what that looks like. There is no judgment, and my practice is a safe place to unmask. Counseling does not work when masks are present. So, my counseling services involve a complete stripping of all pretenses so that we can get to the core and heal.
I am most proud of the safe environment I have created within my practice. Clients tell me all the time that they can’t wait to get to my office because it is relaxing, and they just feel free from the burdens they carry daily. Some of my clients live far out (over an hour away) and I suggest online sessions for convenience, but their response is always that they enjoy my office and prefer to come in. That feels validating because I was told that all I needed was an office with two chairs for counseling. I said no way. I wanted to create a safe place that genuinely and automatically elicits vulnerability. I am so grateful that I have achieved that goal.
Prior to my counseling life, I was an HR Executive for 25 years. So, through that experience, I had already acquired the necessary business skills needed. I was responsible for the development of entire departments and my own. I have global and domestic experience in HR. This has tremendously helped me with my own business, and I often reflect on how grateful I am for my past experience.
I am the sole owner of my business. Every dollar put into it is mine. Because of this, I don’t take the operations of my business lightly. I make sure that every decision reflects my brand and my mission to help people and families heal. In my practice, you will see many tools that aid me in facilitating healing. My business, from the name to my actual office, proudly reflects my goal.
One of the major lessons I have learned is that a heart connection is required for healing to take place. As humans, through our experiences, we have spent so much time avoiding our hearts because we prefer not to deal with feelings, trauma, and pain. Because of that, we carry our unhealed hearts into our connections and relationships and the result is dysfunction. And that is the world that we live in today. It is my mission to heal one heart at a time so that people are empowered and equipped to foster healing in their own families and connections. That’s it. That’s my entire goal. His Daughter Counseling The Heart, PLLC is all about healing families, couples, and individuals from dysfunction and trauma so that we can encounter more healed experiences and connections in this world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a hard question because I don’t really get out much. When I’m not counseling, I’m preparing for my sessions. So let’s see…
I would first visit The Shops of Legacy because I love boutique shopping. It was one of the first spots I went to upon moving to Dallas in 2009.
I would then take my friends to lunch at Legacy West for more shopping. That area is always jumping because it is the happening spot. We would then eat at Legacy Hall because I have never seen anything like that spot before.
I would then take my friends to Poparella’s in downtown Frisco because they have THE BEST popcorn I’ve ever tasted. And I’m from Chicago which is the home of Garrett’s Popcorn. I say this all the time, Poparella’s gives Garrett’s a run for their money.
We would then end our day by visiting Hutchins Barbeque in Frisco. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. They have the best food ever and I love their staff. I am literally there weekly.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The foundation of my success is based on the blueprint that God laid on my heart to help facilitate healing in families, couples, and individuals. I believe that I had the best training that equipped me with my facilitation skills. That began with Dallas Baptist University. Through my counseling program at DBU, I experienced my own healing and that was key in equipping me to serve others. At DBU, I learned so much from Dr. Fowler, Dr. Bartley, Dr. Cook, and Dr. Cobern. It was my experience with Dr. Beverly that validated the gift and calling that God had given me as a counselor. From his class, I received the support and direction that I needed to soar ahead. Beyond DBU, I had the best supervisors prior to starting my own private practice. I’d like to shout out Dr. Michael Leach and Dr. Sandra Davis for giving me such a great head start in their private practice. Dr. Davis was my direct supervisor for my practicum hours. She provided the blueprint for the experiences I would need to serve others. I wasn’t an easy student. I told Dr. Davis that I didn’t want to serve kids/adolescents and that I wanted to strictly do couples and family counseling. Her response is something that I remember to this day. She said, “You WILL serve kids and everyone else and acquire a well-rounded skill set.” So needless to say, I did just that and I LOVED IT. I thank God for her PUSH. And because of that experience, I serve adolescents in my own private practice. It was with Dr. Davis that I learned the intricate details of how to run a private practice. Tammy Blodgett also provided me with invaluable decision-making and client care skills in private practice that I refer to daily. God dropped her in my life exactly when I needed her. I am also grateful for the supervision of Awstin Gregg and Lendy Jones. Awstin was so motivated and driven that his drive is forever embedded in me. Dr. Lendy Jones was my last and final supervisor that brought me to the end of my clinical hours to become fully licensed. She was support, love, and direction all in one. I am so very grateful for each experience and support. All of it has greatly contributed to my success today.
