We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Shields and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work/life balance has always been top of mind for me in my business and personal life. Being a fulltime Realtor can be exhausting, especially in the beginning when you try to get a brand for yourself and clientele. I have been a Realtor for 18 years now and I would like to think I have finally figured it all out but there are days when I have to step back and tell myself to adjust some things to allow for a balance. When my kids were younger it was so important to keep my business thriving but also be there for them. I like to think I handled it very well considering who my children have become as adults and our relationship now. If I could change anything from the past, it would be focusing more on my own physical and mental wellness. I learned this over time. I have found using my clock with reminders and alarms is the best way to keep up with my schedule. I block personal time to give to myself, while allowing for plenty of time for my business to expand and grow. Balance is so important to stay on task.
What should our readers know about your business?
I have been helping families and investors for 18 years buying/selling Real Estate and I could not think of a better and more rewarding career. The look on someones face when they get the keys to their first or fifth home is priceless to me. This is a very emotional career to me because I ride along with my clients to the end and I am part of it. Not just a transaction for me. I do believe this sets me apart from other Realtors. I also have an extensive background in project management and Business development which I feel gives me the ability to make it all flow simply for my clients so they can enjoy the process as much as possible. I have gained alot of new friends over the years and they refer me business which helps my business thrive and grow so I guess I am doing something right!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When I have visitors we always try out great places to eat such as Si Tapas in Dallas, Pecan Lodge has the best bar-b-q, or Sixty Vines. Downtown Dallas, lower Greenville Avenue and Uptown always have something to look at or do too. There is always something to do at Klyde Warren Park in Downtown Dallas. Another fun thing in Dallas is going to the ice skating rink in the Galleria Mall.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I started my Real Estate career, I also worked a full time job and had two small children. My husband took on a big chunk of responsibility so I could work every day. He told me one day it was time to quit my job and dive into Real Estate fulltime. I couldn’t have done it without Russ because he gave me his blessing and full support financial and emotionally to make the leap. It was 18 years ago and I haven’t looked back. For this, I will always be eternally greatful to Russ.
