We had the good fortune of connecting with Chico Morales and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chico, how do you define success?
Success is stewarding my gifts and calling where my feet are. I look at things for what they can be and focus on the potential and not the payday. I don’t fear rejection, I believe I am worthy enough to have whatever I think about. You get/become what you want most of the time, just have to believe it. No matter how inspiring a dream may be, a dream that cannot come to life stays a dream. Success is often destined by past triumphs. The goal is not success, it’s to sustain the success.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am the Director of Performance at APEC (Prosper, Tx) and Co-Owner of the Basketball Academy. I am excited about our growth as a gym! We are going into year 4 of business and we have moved from a 2,000 sqft shed, into a 5,000 sqft facility, and now APEC has partnered with Nancy Lieberman and TJ Cline to open up a 10,000 sqft facility which now has a basketball court. To be a part of the journey and doing what I am passionate about is what I am excited about! It was not easy to get to where I am professionally. I started out as a PT Tech (2018). I did not have a ‘mentor’ while growing in this industry. I became my own mentor and kept pushing to pursue my purpose. Late nights, early mornings, consistency in my daily habits, it is a lifestyle that I have grown to find joy in. If you think about it, there are not many trainers in the nation that train high level, professional athletes ranging from NFL, NBA, Overseas, Golf, Elite Gymnast. I am intentional with every athlete that I work with and bring value in their training. We all have a unique role to play and mine happens to be serving others. As I have grown in this industry, I have learned that it is not what we have, but it is who we become. Also, THE HUSTLE IS SOLD SEPARATELY!!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
That’s a tough one, I am in a grind mode right now, currently I do not get out as much. But, if I had friends visiting, we love game nights (board games, cards, etc.) in my household. It gets competitive and I hate losing. I would take them to a Dallas Mavericks or Cowboys game (shoutout to the ticket plugs). I love BBQ, so we would have to swing by Hutchins BBQ in Frisco and also introduce them to Legacy Hall in Plano. All my friends know I have a chill vibe, so they know what to expect from me.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First off, all glory to God, without him, I would not be where I am at. Shoutout to the APEC Family (formally known as Built 4 It Athletics) for believing in me and the opportunity to play a major role at the gym. Shoutout to Kavon Frazier (CEO) and Kecia Mckenzie (Lead PT, CMO) who have helped me develop into a professional and a business owner. Shoutout to my wife Kassandra for her support, love, and grace as I continue to turn my dreams into reality. She’s a real one! Shoutout to my barber Brooklyn, owner of Brooklyn Cuts & Designs in Frisco, Tx (6927 W Main St.). Brooklyn has always seen my potential and has taken care of me like a brother.
