We had the good fortune of connecting with Elaine Stoltz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elaine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I love my career and do not plan to retire. I come to work and play. I have a B.S. in Education – Mathematics from University of Missouri – Columbia. After working in the corporate world as a computer programmer analyst, I decided to change careers in 1987. Aptitude testing results from Johnson-O’Connor Inc. informed me that, in addition to my teaching skills, I possessed high visual acuity, three-dimensional perception, menory of design and color discrimination. I retrained and started my personal image consulting business – Stoltz Image Consulting, is 1989, specializing in positive first impression. I perform makeovers on clients Like the TV show “What Not to Wear”, but I am the kinder and gentler what not to wear. I received my CIP (Professional Certification) from AICI (Association of Image Consultants International) in 1994 and my CIM (Masters Certification) in 2004. I am one of 15 master image consultants in the world today. I love is custom color analysis and am one of the few in th eworld that perform custom analysis instead of Category color analysis that placed people into a category such as Winter, Spring, Summer or Autunm.

I have clients from all over the country come to work with me and I train new image consultants at my Stoltz Image Institute. My website is www.stoltzimage.com. Cell 817-832-8553

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am world reknown for my personal custom color analysis and one of only a few that use this most advanced color system. Having high color discrimination I see the nuances of colors and love to create a color palette of fabric swatches for my clients. In addtion, I perform a cosmetic makeover to teach them what colors of foundation, blush, lipstick, eye shaldow colors are most flattering on them. Being in business for 33 years, I am still an unknown enitity because there are so few of us that ignorance is my comptetion. Many people have never heard of a personal colorist – image consultant. Marketing is the most difficult problem for me. I joined AICI because it was a larger organization to spread the word of the value of our services. I am an artist, not a marketer. I have built my business one client at a time with a strong referral base.
I want the world to know that they should not settle for using an outdated color system that selects one of four categories for their color palette. I started with that method 33 years ago and realized within the first year that the colors in a category were not doing justice for my clients. Each person has unique eye color, hair color, skin tone and red tones. They need their own unique customed color palette so they alwys look great in their own flattering colors. We see color first in first impression. Wearing the correct color is 75% of the first impression.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Living in Fort Worth, Texas for 45 years I love the city and meroplex – DFW. Moving here form the midwest, Cowtown is unique to most other Texas cities, Definitely the Stockyards is a fun place to spend a day because there is so much to see, do and eat. I would end the day at the Drover Hotel for drinks and dinner. A second must see is the Museum District. We have some of the most unique museum in the US. The art at the Kimbell Art Museum is of the highest quality in the world and has exciting temporary exhibits. The Modern Art Musuem, across the street from the Kimbell is a super contemporary building with a fabulous restaurant for lunch and theater. Fort Worth is home of the Cowgirl Museum, Amon Carter Musuem and our own Sicience and History Musuem.
If my friend visits during the national rodeo weeks we would atend it.
Another beautiful place are our parks – the Trinity Park, Botanical Gardens and the Japanese Garden. A viist to the Botanical Research Institue is very educational.
A tour through downtown is a fun activity with all the restaurants, boutique hotels and shops. And Joe T. Garcia’s for a Mexican dinner iis a must do.
Lastly showing off TCU cmapus, the zoo and the surrounding neighborhood is my stomping ground.
But I would be remiss not taking them to Dallas one day – our sister city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Association of Image Consultant International AICI.org I am a charter member since 1990 and have served as International President, Ttreasurer and VP of Certification. The professional organization has given me a group of other consultants to bond with and now being a AICI CIM (master image consultant) I mentor other members and teach class to members.
