We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaivan Bazleh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaivan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I spent many of my professional years as a DJ working with other respected figures in the entertainment industry learning about the business models, building my reputation and gaining inspiration. Not only did I enjoy the experiences gained from entertaining crowds of all sizes, I also realized that I could bring something special to the world of events where music is an important, if not vital, aspect. By operating my own business, I am able to tailor my services to each and every client in a unique way; I can take time to get to know them and what their goals are. Whether I am working with companies or private individuals, I believe it is essential to help create memorable moments that everyone can enjoy, knowing all the details will be taken care of. From start to finish, I am present and involved in their process, which is something that I take very seriously. I get to place my entire focus and skillset into each event. The most rewarding aspect of what I do would have to be that I get to make my clients and their guests happy. After 18 years and counting in the industry, there is still no better feeling than watching people have a good time while they feel confident in my ability to help make their events a total success.

One of the most exciting parts about owning your own business in the creative arts is when new opportunities become available for expressive expansion and growth. During the initial shutdowns last year as we were dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, I used my time to explore a new creative outlet in performative live streaming via Twitch. During my last several years in Austin, I had a really cool residency at The Jackalope on 6th Street where I would perform with and mix music videos in front of a live audience. As I began to familiarize myself with the live streaming platform, I realized I could continue these live performances using music videos remotely and broadcast them all over the internet to share and connect with audiences from all over. This has served as a much needed outlet for experimentation and creative exploration that allows me to recreate the kind of programming I grew up watching and adoring as a young teenager with MTV and share that kind of vibe with the masses. You can tune into my upcoming live streams by logging on and subscribing to my Twitch channel at https://www.twitch.tv/djkbtv. My plans for the future are to bring these music video performances to a live setting so I can implement them as an enhancement to my live performances.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For great vibes on a Sunday afternoon, you can’t go wrong with Sunday Sessions at BrainDead Brewing in Deep Ellum. This weekly is hosted by DJ Leo J and always features some amazing local turntablists. When I’m spending time with my family, Little Elm Beach is great this time of year, with beach volleyball, awesome trails and kayak and paddle board rentals if you want to get on the water. When I feel like digging for vinyl, one of my favorite record stores to visit is Josey Records. I can spend hours their hunting for all kinds of musical gems. Lastly, when it comes to my 5 year old son Rowan, he absolutely loves throwback video games, so regular visits to Free Play Arcade in Denton and the National Video Game Museum in Frisco are a must!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A big shout out to my ATX family at Dub Academy for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime as their lead instructor for over 7 years and giving me the privilege to teach the next generation of aspiring DJs. Also, a huge shoutout to Barrington Miles of Texas Pro DJ for taking me on as a senior DJ and serving as a model for professionalism when it comes to entertaining events of all calibers. Another immense shout out to Michael Roos of True DJs of Dallas for taking me on board with his company during my transition from Austin to Dallas and allowing me to work collaboratively with him while continuing to grow my own company and build my own independent clientele. And lastly, a sincere shoutout to my good friend and mentor Dan Quinn of DQB Entertainment and Oontz Kids DJ Academy who continues to motivate and coach me in developing my goals and skills as an independent business. I wouldn’t be here today without the support, encouragement and confidence of these amazing individuals.
